2013 KM Challenge (IOM Ranking) 15 September
A weather forecast of a strong nor easter gradually easing during the day. The expected easing never came. The whole day was 20 - 25 knots gusting to 35 (according to the airport BOM site across the road).
Some tried B rigs in the first race but those with C rigs quickly changed down. Others with nothing smaller than B rig tried to sail the day out but didnt make it. You may only use a C rig occasionally but when the conditions call for it, there is nothing worse than watching others having fun and you missing out.
Waves to surf downwind were exciting as was the speed that these boats show when pressed in both directions.

Interclub Gunwale Bum Day 23 June 2013
A great turnout of sailors on a not so great sailing day. The sun was peaking out from the clouds but the wind was from the east and gusting from 5 to 20 knots. We dont get many easterly breezes in Adelaide and this was going to make things interesting. The direction settled with just enough North to make the course along the water way and not across it.
The ARCYRC had decided we would run a teams racing event. While the conditions were not conclusive to good teams racing, 3 weather marks were set up shorten the course for some of the boats. This worked well to bunch the fleet up each lap. Teams were drawn randomly from entrants there at 10:30 am.
It soon became apparent that some boats had too much sail up. For those with smaller rigs available, changes were made while others struggled with what they had. A number of boats were retrieved and some skippers prudently packed their boats away for the day.
The BBQ was fired up and the nice smell of onions and sausages wafted across the fleet. Lunch was called and the sailors enjoyed a glass or 2 of red over lunch. Back to the water for the last hour & to still have 11 boats sailing at the end was great.
Thanks to all sailors from Stirling, West Lakes and the Pat for persisting and making the day as it should be, good fun. Special thanks to Jeff and Mal for cooking and to Bob's wife Inga who cleaned up before sitting back and enjoying a few quiet glasses of wine. It really was a very civilised day.
